Saudi Arabia takes center stage as over 440 industry leaders unite to shape the future of air travel in the Arab world

The 12th edition of the Arab Aviation Summit (AAS) concluded this week in Riyadh, solidifying the Kingdom’s position as a key driver of innovation and growth within the global aviation ecosystem. Held under the theme “Uniting Leaders, Building Tomorrow: Advancing Global Aviation”, the two-day event gathered over 440 policymakers, industry leaders, and global stakeholders, marking a milestone in Saudi Arabia’s journey toward becoming a world-class aviation hub.

For the first time hosted in Riyadh, the summit served as a powerful platform for dialogue and strategic collaboration. It placed Saudi Arabia at the forefront of discussions on aviation finance, infrastructure investment, airline expansion, and the next wave of air mobility technologies.

Central to the agenda was the Kingdom’s bold aviation roadmap, aligned with Vision 2030, which aims to triple passenger traffic, launch a new national carrier, and invest heavily in aviation infrastructure and training. Experts highlighted how these developments are poised to enhance connectivity across the Arab world while reinforcing regional competitiveness in the global market.

Training Takes Off: Announcements from Saudia and IAE

Among the major announcements was the launch of a new Saudia Academy training center in Riyadh, revealed by Captain Ismael Koshy. The facility will host eight flight simulators and form the first phase of an ambitious expansion in pilot and crew training.

In parallel, Intercontinental Aviation Enterprise (IAE) CEO Wissam Mehyou unveiled plans for two additional training centers, part of the company’s larger vision to operate 15 locations in the Kingdom by 2030, and a global network of 80 centers. These initiatives underscore the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals as the sector expands.

Industry Support for Vision 2030

Reflecting widespread industry support for Saudi Arabia’s transformation, Airbus Vice President of Sales for the Middle East, Usman Mastan, remarked: “Airbus proudly stands as a key enabler of Vision 2030. Through innovation, collaboration, and sustainable growth, we are turning ambitious goals into reality.”

AviLease, a major player in the aviation leasing market, also emphasized its strategic alignment with the Kingdom’s goals. Deputy CEO Tariq Alghaziri highlighted the company’s role in supporting next-generation aircraft deployment and innovative leasing models aimed at empowering both regional and global carriers.

Future-Focused Agenda

The summit explored a wide spectrum of critical topics, from general aviation and passenger experience to advanced air mobility and workforce development. Speakers from across the Arab region and beyond shared insights on navigating today’s challenges—such as aircraft availability and operational efficiency—while preparing for a more sustainable, connected future.

Supported by regional governments and major global aviation entities including IATA, the Arab Air Carriers’ Organization, Airbus, AVILEASE, MATARAT, the Saudi Connectivity Program, and Rolls-Royce, AAS 2025 offered unmatched access to best practices, case studies, and strategic partnerships.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Skies

As it wraps up its 12th edition, the Arab Aviation Summit continues to affirm its role as the leading platform for dialogue and development across the GCC and broader Arab world. With Riyadh as its stage, this year’s summit not only celebrated achievements but laid the groundwork for a more connected, innovative, and sustainable aviation future across the region.
