China Airlines has finalised a firm order for ten Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, reinforcing its strategy for international expansion and next-generation fleet modernisation. The order, initially announced in December 2024, reflects the airline’s growing ambitions to serve long-haul markets across North America and Europe.
The new aircraft will complement the carrier’s existing fleet of 15 A350-900s, ensuring operational continuity and maximising training, maintenance, and scheduling synergies through full cockpit and operational commonality.
“We are confident that the A350-1000, with its superior range, fuel efficiency and comfort, will play a key role in transforming our long-haul operations,” said Kao Shing-Hwang, Chairman of China Airlines. “This investment supports our international growth strategy and reflects our commitment to improving the travel experience for our passengers.”
A350-1000: A Benchmark for Long-Range Sustainability
Airbus’ A350-1000 is the longest-range commercial aircraft in production, capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres) non-stop while burning 25% less fuel compared to previous-generation widebodies. The aircraft also delivers a corresponding reduction in CO₂ emissions and is certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100% SAF capability by 2030.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales at Airbus, welcomed the confirmation, saying: “China Airlines has played a pioneering role in embracing cutting-edge aviation technology. By choosing the A350-1000 Long Range Leader, they continue to elevate their fleet, bringing superior efficiency and comfort to the forefront of long-haul travel.”
. As competition intensifies among Gulf carriers and Asia-Pacific operators, the A350-1000’s performance and lower environmental footprint present compelling benefits for airlines navigating post-pandemic recovery and sustainability mandates.
China Airlines’ A350-1000 order also reinforces the continued popularity of Airbus’ widebody platforms. With over 1,360 orders globally from 60 customers, the A350 family is now a key player in reshaping international connectivity—something Gulf-based carriers are closely tracking as part of their future fleet strategies.
The airline currently operates a diverse Airbus fleet, including 15 A321neo, 16 A330s, and its growing A350 family—serving destinations across Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and North America.
